Music industry talking to ISP’s

by david 3/17/2008 4:15:00 AM
Music industry talking to ISP’s
In the battle against pirated music and in the wake of the governments decision to force ISP’s to sanction those people who have downloaded pirated material by removing their internet connections, it is time that something was done to clarify the situation.

It would seem that there has been some movement in helping the consumer, the ISP’s and the music industry to finally get around this problem. The way forward could be a deal being hatched by the major music companies and the ISP’s in the UK to provide easier access for the consumers to the downloadable music that they want within the broadband packages.

With the government saying that they will force an ISP to act on internet piracy if they do nothing about themselves they have no choice but to try something. But there are about six million internet users who have downloaded illegal files in the UK alone and around a fifth of those do this while they are work. This throws up all sorts of problems in policing the download activity of users. By offering easy downloads could this be the answer that solves the problem?

Crime DOES pay! Alexandra Offered $1M to Pose Nude

by david 3/16/2008 5:20:00 PM

Ashley Alexandra DupreThe Eliot Spitzer mistress “Ashley Alexandra Dupre”, can now write her own check and live the life she has always dreamed. So what she made her money the old fashion way (she earned it). And weather you are Christian, Jew, Muslim, Athiest, or none of the above; you have to admit, we ALL sell our bodies to one employer or another. And some of us, even sell our souls.

Access Hollywood writes;

NEW YORK, New York — As her instant celebrity status continues to climb in the wake of the Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal, Ashley Alexandra Dupre has now received a $1 million offer to bare it all.

A rep for Hustler Magazine has confirmed exclusively to Access Hollywood a seven-figure offer will be made to the call girl.

“Larry Flynt and Hustler Magazine will be offering $1 Million to Ashley Dupre to pose for Hustler Magazine,” the rep told Access. “We want this to happen as soon as possible.”

But the folks at Hustler aren’t the only ones willing to pony up for the rights to feature Ashley in the buff.

Ashley Alexandra Dupre: “Do You Know Who This Guy Is?”

by david 3/16/2008 5:18:00 PM

Ashley Alexandra Dupre, the high-priced hooker at the center of disgraced New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s sex scandal, had sex with him several times before he was caught on a wiretap during a federal investigation.

However, only during their last sexual encounter did she finally realize the true identity of Eliot Spitzer, according to today’s New York Post.

“Oh, my God! Do you know who this guy is?” a shocked Ashley Alexandra Dupre asked her bosses at the Emperors Club VIP escort service, a source reports.

The comment came soon after Dupre’s now-infamous and high-priced - $4,300 - meeting with Eliot Spitzer at a Washington hotel on February 13.

The 22-year-old call girl had several “dates” with the governor over the past year, the sources said, but always knew him as “George Fox” - the name of one of Spitzer’s close friends that he used in order to protect his identity.

But just before Dupre - born and raised Ashley Youmans in Wall, N.J., but whom Eliot Spitzer knew as “Kristen” - had her startling revelation, the Feds caught the governor on tape giving them enough evidence to take down the sex ring.

That paved the way for his embarrassing resignation Wednesday.

Meanwhile, as the Democratic governor prepared to leave his office in disgrace, sordid details of Dupre’s foray into prostitution emerged.

Dupre got involved with Emperors Club VIP as early as 2006 after responding to an ad from the agency seeking girls to “party” with deep-pocketed men.

by david 3/16/2008 5:09:00 PM

It is back again - and coming real soon. The 10th Annual Los Angeles Salsa Congress (previously called the West Coast Salsa Congress). Just a quick heads-up to everyone who is planning to go - tickets are selling fast and hotel is almost booked. This year they are bringing back one of my favorite bands: The New Swing Sextet (rumor has it they have a new album coming out). ...

Here is a few videos of last year’s congress:

Making the Most of South by Southwest

by david 3/16/2008 5:05:00 PM

Band of HeathensI have somehow survived my eighth year of South by Southwest, the huge four-day music festival in Austin, Texas, where more than a thousand bands descend on the city, playing official and unofficial showcases, day and night. This year, I decided to find international bands with a country music influence. That’s my first tip for first-timers -- go check out a band from the U.K. or Australia. They’ve come a long way to sing for you. I was also on a mission to cover the softer side of SXSW. Raucous indie bands get all the attention, but I found a bunch of mellow songwriters that I’ll be enjoying in the coming months, including Matthew Barber (from Canada), Phantom Limb (from England) and Whitley (from Australia). More advice: If you like the music, buy a CD. And musicians, carry your CDs everywhere.

It’s always a treat to see local bands too, and this year the choices were plentiful, including Band of Heathens (who are outstanding in their field, as you can see above), Eliza Gilkyson, Reckless Kelly, Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis. You should eat local whenever possible, whether it’s upscale barbecue at Lambert’s or famous enchiladas at Las Manitas. When you’re parched in the Texas heat, quench your palate with local libations like Sweet Leaf iced tea, Dominican Joe coffee or Tito’s handmade vodka.

Then look around and see what people are wearing. It’s pretty easy to get fashion advice at SXSW. This year it was big sunglasses with white frames for men and women – sometimes the only non-black piece in their whole outfit. Green plaid seems to be the spring fashion statement, whether it’s short-sleeved or long-sleeved, and I personally think it’s a good look with pearl snaps. But I suggest leaving the fashionable shoes at home and bringing something practical. There’s a lot of territory to cover.

Speak out Against CBC Radio Two Programming Changes

by david 3/16/2008 4:57:00 PM
For those of non-Canadian readership, a little background information. The CBC (Canadian broadcasting Corporation) is our government owned an operated Broadcasting service, owning a few National TV stations, and a National Radio Broadcasting station (knows as Radio Two) and Local and Provincial radio (known as Radio One). For years, Radio Two has been the only outlet for classical musicians of our country to be heard coast to coast.

Over the past year, the CBC has altered their programming by cutting off all "Classical" music after 6:00 PM, they cut all news programs, including "The World at Six", the most comprehensive national news radio program in Canada, and "The Arts Report" which was one of the sole ways to hear about performers, concerts and anything music related from coast to coast. It was also announced yesterday that the host of "Sound Advice" the only national music recording critique show has resigned, and the show will stop at the end of this month.

As of September CBC Two is slated to turn into basically an easy listening, and alternative music station, cutting off ties will all the orchestras, choirs, and performers who are making a living in Canada.
